About Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels
Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels, Inc. was started in 1985 by Daniel Lilja as a result of his interest in benchrest rifles. Dan has been an active benchrest shooter since the mid 1970s and has an industrial engineering and machinist / toolmaker background. He enjoys shooting at benchrest matches and has won and placed well at national level matches over the years. He and his family also enjoy big game and varmint hunting. Dan is also a volunteer Hunter Safety Instructor in Montana. Lilja Rifle Barrels also sponsors a scholarship for local high school seniors.
Since Dan started this business Lilja barrels shot by him and others have won events in every major benchrest tournament, including the NBRSA and IBS Nationals, the Super Shoot, the Cactus, the Crawfish and Williamsport, as well as FCSA, BR-50 and CBA matches. They have also set NBRSA, BR-50, IR 50/50, RBA, ARA and CBA records. Olympic Gold medals have been won using our .22 rimfire barrels. Dan has also served as both a director and past president of the National Bench Rest Shooters Association and is a Trustee of the Rifled Arms Historical Association. From this benchrest beginning, shooters desiring the ultimate in accurate barrels have called on our company. We furnish barrels for other competitive shooting sports, hunting and varmint rifles. There is also a demand for our barrels in law enforcement counter-sniper rifles and a number of military agencies including the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Rangers, the U.S. Army Research Lab, the U.S. Navy Seals, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, the U.S. Airforce Shooting Team, U.S. Army Reserve Shooting Team, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Canadian Special Forces and numerous local police and sheriff departments. These customers demand the best and so should you.
Lilja barrels have also been used by all the major bullet manufacturing companies, and by the ammunition industry for accuracy and pressure testing of their products.
Our barrels are made from rifle barrel quality, 416-type stainless and 4140-type chrome-moly steels manufactured in the U.S. In addition, all of our tooling is either made in our shop or by U.S. suppliers. The barrels are pull-button rifled, with a very uniform twist rate. Every barrel is stress-relieved in a vacuum furnace, handlapped, and inspected with a video bore scope. Quality is also assured through the use of our Sheffield Air Gauge System and Rockwell Hardness Tester. Stainless steel barrels are guaranteed to be uniform dimensionally to .0001″ and free from internal tool marks. Chrome-moly barrels are uniform to within .0002″ end to end. We do not have different grades of barrels in the two types of steel: just one, our best match quality.
Since moving into our new building in 2005 we’ve added two completely rebuilt and redesigned ball-screw-driven Pratt & Whitney PLC controlled gundrills; a 1/2B-30 and a 1/2B-50. These machines are producing outstanding holes for us. In June of 2008 we added another new machine, a Haas TM-3P CNC milling machine used for fluting and octagon work, the milling work on our drop-in barrels and other applications. These computer controlled machines join our CNC lathes and other PLC controlled internal finishing machines. In 2013 we purchased a 7-axis CNC scew machine and are making other firearms related parts. We’ve made big investments in our equipment so we’re able to deliver the best barrels to our customers.
We use SolidWorks for solid modeling and engineering work. We can accept .sldprt files emailed to us.
